The newer Amate variety of the Schefflera, which is grown from a tissue culture, has larger glossier leaves. A regular schefflera plant prefers bright, indirect light; the Schefflera Amate requires less light, is more resistant to spider mites, has a better developed root system, and is very symmetrical and full. A Schefflera Amate is a little more expensive than a regular Schefflera, but well worth the extra cost.
Schefflera plants are considered poisonous and should be kept away from pets and children.
